Tuesday Evening Conversation at Zebulon Pike Detention Center:
16-year-old serving time: “There isn’t a God you know, because if there was, my family and I wouldn’t have gone hungry and I wouldn’t have had to steal food for us when I was a little kid!”
SOCO YFC Coach/Mentor: “O.k., let’s put aside your belief there is no God for a moment, where was your Dad when you were hungry?”
“I don’t know my Dad, or his Dad or anything about them, they were not there!”
“So, as a Dad (someday), will you be different? Will you be the one to break the generational cycle of having no Dads to raise their family? Will you be your family’s provider and sustainer or repeat your Dad’s legacy…will you be their leader and breadwinner?”
This conversation is an example of what takes place multiple times every week as a SOCO YFC Coach/Mentor begins or continues a relationship with a troubled youth and provide them with direction while planting seeds of Gospel Truth. Without Youth for Christ, most of them would not have a committed and caring adults speaking into their lives every week.
But, because of your partnership we can continue providing hope and direction for these detained and incarcerated youth through this important process of Coach/Mentoring, facility Bible studies, facility concerts and speakers, facility sports activities, and our community involvement programs.
Thank you! We could not do what we do without you!
