LIGHT FOR THE STEP WE ARE ON
My favorite season of the year is here, Autumn. As I checked my schedule looking towards the end of the calendar year, I saw a lot of great events where we can share the love of the Lord with youth. We have dance performances for the kids starting in November and later ten Christmas parties for the facilities going on till Christmas. We also have our end of year fund-raising events that allow us to keep doing the Lord’s work. I love this time of year and ask that you keep Lorie, the volunteers and myself in prayer so that all these events will bring Glory to the Lord.
Enjoy this testimony of a volunteer that has been with us for over twelve years.
I have been on a long journey that God is taking me on and Youth for Christ is part of it. When I started with YFC in 2011 it was the beginning of a new chapter in my life of listening to God and learning. God is good how he takes us step by step. If we slip on a step, he picks us up and helps us up on a stronger step.
I was a bit shy and introverted as a child and losing my parents as a teenager left my start in life without many abilities or skills. God opened jobs where I had to learn to communicate in a big way, preparing me not to shy away in preparation for future conversations he had in mind. Ups and downs are all part of life and I share that with the kids. I encourage them to look for what God has for them even when things aren’t going right.
The weekly conversation with the kids has all been part of my journey. I thought in the beginning, we were just there to help them find God. But it has been much more than that. I love being able to give the kids the hope that Jesus gives us of a better future where he is always with us through the bad and the good.
Being incarcerated can be depressing and can feel degrading even for those who believe. We can all see it is a real struggle. Where possible, I hope to help bring them out of that frame of mind and into a place of love, joy, peace and self-respect.
It is so good when I see someone can see hope for their future and they can see Jesus will be there for them no matter what. Week to week their attitudes and willingness to learn more about Jesus can waiver. We are constantly trying to renew that hope and promise of what Jesus has for them once they put their trust in Him. Our prayers at work.
Some weeks I may go in there with my own problems bothering me. God can even use YFC to encourage me through the kids. Usually, every week one of them will ask me how I am, how was my week? It is really a blessing to me to get to know them and share with them as the Holy Spirit leads. God always shows up and every week is an adventure.
Please pray about becoming a monthly donor and making it possible for over 30 local missionaries to continue doing the Lord’s work, bringing the Love of God to youth that are in a very dark place.
