Have you ever started a project that you thought was simple enough, only to discover that it was far more complicated than you realized and to accomplish it would take much more time and effort? I know that I have done that with home projects many times.
I have found the same is true in ministry. We see a need we want to fill, only to find out that it is far greater than we could ever imagine. Southern Colorado Youth For Christ has been experiencing an amazing move of the Lord over the past few months. I have shared some of what He is doing in past newsletters. The last couple of years I have been asking the Lord where He wants us to expand the ministry to help more youth that are in a dark place. YFC USA has school ministries in many cities and that is something I know is needed here. The Lord told me to wait a couple of years. Those two years are coming to an end. I am still waiting to hear from the Lord which middle schools, high schools and/or alternative schools He wants us to minister in.
This morning, during our weekly prayer call we were informed that a youth shot and killed another youth at a YFC city life meeting in another state. Such a tragedy in which the whole community has been affected! I am grateful that YFC gave the young person whose life was taken a place to go, to learn about the Lord and be in fellowship with those who know and love our Father. I pray the shooter comes to know the Love, Mercy, Grace and Forgiveness of the Lord.
An hour or so after that news a single mother with three children called our office looking for help for her 13-year-old daughter. Her child had been expelled from school for stealing, and she has been in trouble in other areas as well. The mother is a worship leader in her church, but did not want to involve her church in her daughter’s issues, because it is a place of peace for her family. I am praying that the Lord leads me to a servant that will be willing to minister to this family. The Lord led this mother to us for a reason, and I am in prayer that the Lord will provide what only He can.
The problems youth are facing across the nation and in our cities can only be healed by the Lord through the body of Christ. I know that this ministry cannot solve this problem on its own, but we are willing to be obedient to the Lord’s calling and bring hope to one youth at a time. I will not take it upon myself to figure out how and where to minister to the Lord’s youth, but will rely on the Lord’s direction. This problem is bigger than one person or one ministry. I do know the Lord expects us, His body, to be obedient and support what he is doing. We are called to glorify God by bringing his Love, Grace, and Mercy to the World.
Please pray about how the Lord can use you. You are God's most valuable asset. Your voice in prayer, your time, and funds are all given by our Lord for us to steward faithfully!
