Greetings Friends! The Lord has continued moving mightily in the last month. Several young people in the facilities have given their lives to Christ. Others have rededicated their lives. Several more now have one-on-one coach-mentors. We've been adding servants excited to work with the kids. Progress is being made where Southern Peaks is concerned.
I recently attended a luncheon where the speaker talked about "mission creep." This is when we start doing things other than the mission God has called us to. Our mission statement is: “To participate in the body of Christ in responsible evangelism of youth, presenting them with the person, work and teachings of Christ and discipling them into the Church.”
Our servants have been plowing hard soil, removing rocks, and pulling weeds so that the ground can receive the word of God and growth can begin. This is the evangelism part of the mission. Once God gets the harvest it is time to anchor them to the foundation, Discipleship.
Matthew 7:24-27
"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.”
I lived in Texas for many years in the heart of tornado alley. This taught me that you can have a great foundation, but when troubles come you can still lose the house. I am not talking about losing salvation. I am talking about our relational growth in the Lord. We need strong anchors that go deep, so that the Lord can grow us and then use us. This is what discipleship does.
Another thing that slows or stops growth is when we bring the things of the world onto our foundation. They restrict God’s ability to work in us. It is hard to trust the anchors when the storms are blowing in our lives. The young people that are just getting on their new foundation only know the things of the world that they have been holding onto. They need discipleship as we all do. I know I have allowed some things to crowd the foundation. I am taking time this summer to do some cleaning.
Please pray that this ministry will not drift from God’s calling.
Look around. What have you allowed to come between you and the foundation?
WE are the house that is being built upon Christ,
Our rock and firm foundation.
Thank you for your support.
Have a blessed summer!
Andy
